Sterling Clothing began with a vision in 1932. What started as a small CMT operator in downtown Johannesburg quickly stitched its way into South Africa’s fashion story. By 1935, the Sterling brand was born, and just a few years later, in 1942, we made history with the launch of the legendary safari suit — a style that defined generations.

As demand grew, so did we. In 1953, our factory moved into the landmark “Sterling House” in Pritchard Street. Durban became home to part of our production in 1966, and by 1987 we had officially evolved into Sterling Clothing (Pty) Ltd. The big turning point came in 1998, when we joined forces with the A M Moolla Group (today Kingsgate Clothing Group). That move set the stage for Sterling to become the Group’s premier business unit.

But progress never stands still. In 2003, we left Braamfontein for a bigger home in Selby, Johannesburg. Then, in 2023, when the city’s landscape shifted, we adapted again — moving into vibrant Rosebank, a safer, central hub that brings us even closer to our customers and our people.

Over nine decades later, Sterling is no longer just an outdoor adventure brand. We’ve become a trusted name in casual, leisure, golf, formal and corporate wear, serving more than 350 customers across South Africa and beyond.

Our secret? Relentless innovation, bold marketing, and a commitment to service and quality that never wavers. Almost 85% of what we make is crafted right here in South Africa and Southern Africa, with the rest sourced globally for specialised fabrics you simply can’t find locally.

The founders who started this journey may no longer be with us, but their legacy is alive in every garment we create. Sterling isn’t just clothing — it’s history stitched into the future.
